The tire manufacturer Bridgestone has released information on what type of tires will be used for upcoming Formula One races. They were able to confirm which dry weather tires would be available to the teams for the upcoming five races. Super-soft and medium will be used for the German Grand Prix and the Hungarian Grand Prix as well as the European Grand Prix in Valencia will feature super soft and soft compounds, while the soft and medium rubber will go to the Belgian and Italian Grand Prix Events.
The Japanese company spoke recently, via Bridgestone Director of Motorsport Tire Development, Hirohide Hamashima, about the changes that they have made. Hamashima said that the vehicles being used for this year's races differ radically from the ones that were racing last year, and that they have based their allocation upon data collected from the races this year thus far. He also mentioned that not only are the cars different this year, but they use their tires differently as well.
About the Hungarian Grand Prix, Hamashima said that the circuit at Hungary has characteristics that demand their softest tires, holding true for the street courses as well. As far as Spa, the cool temperatures make a difference and the super soft would have been too soft. In Monza, the hard compound on that circuit requires the soft and the medium rubber tires.
Other allocations this year included, or includes super soft and medium for Australia, soft and hard for Malaysia, super-soft and medium for China and Bahrain, soft and hard for Spain and super soft and soft for Monaco. In Germany super soft and medium were allocated, in Europe, super soft and soft and in Italy, soft and medium.
