Extra Tires Allowed During Formula One Melbourne Practice

FerrariDrivers will be allowed an extra set of Tires for the Melbourne, Australia Formula One race, durin ghthe first practice session. Normally, this would be disallowed but a recent change to the rules of the race allows Pirelli to supply the drivers with 12 sets of tires instead of 11 at some events. This is expected to allow drivers to finish more practices because the temperature is much warmer in Melbourne than the teams have seen during the Winter tests. Paul Hembery, the director of motosport for Pirelli, is keen to get started after preparing all season.

Hemberry says that this is the moment that they have been working their way towards all year and that they are all excited now that it is here. He also mentioned that the tires this year are something that has never been seen before in Formula 1 and that they were designed that way and that the teams have been able to learn quite a bit about how to drive with them during the test. Hemberry says that they will be looking for two or three pit stops in Australia, adding that even through the company designs the tires to be as durable as possible, Formula One requires at least that many pit stops.

Hemberry said that he is interested to see exactly how the tires that the company provides will be used by the drivers and the teams in this week's Formula One series race. A few teams have already changed up their driving behavior in the testing and now we will see how the tires hold up in a race situation. The drivers will get their extra tires at the beginning of Friday's practice session, and then the normal rules of Formula One racing will apply.
