Felipe Massa Says No Problem With Eyesight

Felipe MassaIn a web chat that launched more than 3000 questions about all kinds of subjects at Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa, who was injured in a crash at the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying round. He said that he has already been behind the wheel of the brand new Ferrari 458 Italia, and will drive a F1 single seater vehicle this coming Monday, if the weather is good and all of the medical concerns check out. One concern had been about his eyesight and there was even a question of whether or not he would race again, but Massa claims that his eyesight is perfect, even 100 percent.

Massa gave credit to today's technology for saving what perhaps could have been his life and certainly his racing career, specifically the carbon fiber helmets that they use to race today. He said that if the crash had happened a few years prior then there may have been a very different result. One of the questions that he was asked on the web chat was what had happened to the helmet that he had worn during the crash. Massa answered that question, stating that the helmet was in his home with others that he had worn, and that it was a part of his life.

Another question that he fielded was how much pain he had been in, and the surprising answer was none. He said that even when he had awoken in Budapest he wasn't in pain, and attributed some of that to the medication. He also said that because he and his wife, Raffaela are going to be having a baby soon, that some family members had asked him to consider giving up racing, as this crash was a big one. He said that only once did he wife ask him if he wanted to stop racing, if there was even a one percent chance. His answer was that there wasn't even a half a percent chance.
