The Formula 1 racing circuit has not been short on news this past little while and it truly has been a roller coaster for Bernie Ecclestone. In news on Monday the FIA has started to entertain bids for a final position on the grid for the Formula 1 2010 season. This news comes on the heels of BMW’s decision to withdraw from the circuit.
Earlier this year FIA president Max Mosley chose to send a letter to seven different teams that missed out on the final round of bidding this year. Each of those teams was placed onto a reserve list should something happen to change the grid for next year. It is believed that BMW-Sauber is the top team that the F1 wants and there is a possibility they will get priority if they manage to put together a decent package.
The good news for the F1 is that there is no longer the threat of a breakaway series thanks to a new Concorde Agreement that was signed last week. The problem is that Peter Sauber was not able to get a buyout together before the deadline but he does still hold a 20 percent share in the team and will continue to work on a deal to get BMW-Sauber to sign the new deal.
Aside from Sauber there appear to be some interesting bids fro prodrive, Superfund and N. Technology, but it cannot be true that the F1 can possibly be thinking about other deals during all these legal troubles.
What this is really is just another notch in the saga that is the F1. The entire 2009 season has been up and down with all sorts of exciting racing but also negative news. It surely will be good news for everyone involved when the starting grid is finalized for next year and everyone can get focused back on the drivers, the races, and the F1 championship.
