Although it was just practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix it turned out to be a pretty exciting day for F1 fans, and especially for the McLaren team. The team finished off a very successful Friday at Hungaroring by picking up the top 2 spots in practice. While F1 fans know not to read too much into GP practices, this has to give the McLaren team quite a bit of optimism in terms of their team's chances to make an impact on the race.
Lewis Hamilton collected the fastest time on the day with 1:22.079 and just barely beat out his teammate Heikki Kovalainen, who had the fastest in the morning. Lewis is taking it all in stride and trying to remain modest, as he insists the competition is just getting started and that he is aiming for a Q3 finish.
Williams' Nico Rosberg managed to come in third on the day yet still had some pretty choice words about his car's performance. Mark Webber, coming off his first career F1 victory in Germany, finished in 4th place and Kazuki Nakajima of Williams rounded out the top 5. Webber managed to come in 4th place even though he missed the last part of the race thanks to some unexpected hydraulic problems.
Championship leader Sebastian Vettel only managed to come in 6th place and was visibly upset with his performance. He stated that he would like to see a lot of changes happen overnight before qualifying takes place.
It still seems that the battle for the Hungarian Grand Prix will remain between Brawn and Red Bull. However, McLaren will definitely be looking to make a move after these positive results.
