Big news came out of F1 today. While the fate and health of Felipe Massa is still on the minds of everyone and the most important thing right now, F1 fans all over the world are ecstatic as Michael Schumacher has decided to return to team Ferrari. The announcement came on Wednesday when Schumacher decided to help his former team and replace Massa until he was fit to return, which looks very unlikely. The next race, and hopefully the first time we get to see Schumacher back behind the wheel, is the European Grand Prix that runs from August 21-23 in Spain.
No matter how fans feel about Schumacher or about the Ferrari team this is huge news for the sport, and could end up being a huge story if the 40 year old has success. Schumacher never thought he would return but has side his allegiance to team has inspired him to step up and help out Ferrari in their biggest time of need.
Good news also came surrounding Massa as he took his first steps since the accident and was released from the intensive care unit.
It will take a lot of work on Schumacher’s part and for Ferrari to get him back in shape in time for the European GP in Valencia, but it seems that everyone is committed. Schumacher has acted as a consultant for the Ferrari team since he retired in 2006 and has been participating in a motorcycle series until he was injured in February. He is most remembered for winning five straight F1 titles in between 2000-2004. Just imagine the story and media spotlight if he could somehow come through and win the title again this year. It would be a great story for a sport and business that desperately needs some feel good moments.
