Well, the GP at Portimao is tomorrow and for the first time in his entire career Cal Crutchlow who is riding with Sterilgarda Yamaha got himself a best lap as well as his very first Pole Position. The lap was was 1:42.092 which took over as number one from Ben Spies time from last year's qualifying at Superpole. Crutchlow said that Yamaha had worked especially hard this past month to get rid of all of the problems that they have been having, and added that the track gets better and better.
Second place finisher for position in Sunday's race was Max Biaggi riding with Aprilia Alitalia Biaggi was the sole finisher in the top five for Aprilia and in fact, the top five of the Pole Results At Portimao race were all five different machines, Yamaha, Ducati, Aprilia, Suzuki and Honda. Biaggi said that the layout of the track as well as the tarmac means that the bike is working better, and also included that him and his team were back where they should be, fighting with those on the top.
In third was Carlos Checka riding Ducati and then we had fourth place finisher on Suzuki Alstare Leon Haslam, who had trouble with his qualifying tires. Fifth place was Jonathan Rea with Hannspree Ten Kate Honda, beating out Ducati rider Jakub Smrz as well as the teammate for Carlos Checka Shane Byrne. When Checka was asked for a comment he merely stated that it would be open tomorrow and that many of the riders competing have a great pace and a great chance of landing first place. The Superbikes in Portimao, Portugal is on Sunday, March 28th.
