Qualifying Heats Up While the Weather Does Not at the German Grand Prix

Rubens BarrichelloThe Formula One German Grand Prix is almost upon us and the excitement is revving up just like the car engines are. During qualifying on Saturday, Mark Webber of the Red Bull team earned the pole position by just barely beating out the qualifying time of Brawn GP driver Rubens Barrichello. This will be his first ever career pole thanks to his fastest lap time of just one minute and 32.230 seconds.

So far on the season, Jenson Button is the overall leader as he has won 6 of a possible 8 races so far. He will be in third position just ahead of another Red Bull driver, and local favorite, Sebastian Vettel. Vettel has won the only two races that Button has not won so far this year. Webber is obviously seeking his first win of the season, and actually his first ever victory as this will be his 132nd career race.

The Australian driver is hoping for a calm, collected Grand Prix and is excited about his pole position which should give him a good shot at a big win. However a calm Grand Prix may not be possible thanks to the weather that the drivers will be dealing with. It is expected that the race on Sunday will force the cars to have to deal with cool temperatures and a possible abundance of rain. The Bridgestone tires that have been assigned for the race lack a lot of grip which should mean that more than a few cars spin out and end up off of the track.

While the weather may not work out well for Webber in hopes to hold his pole position, it could open the door for some other drivers trying to catch up with Button. Overall Button has 64 points on the year and is trailed by Barrichello with 41, Vettel with 39 and Webber with 35.5. No matter what happens, the German Grand Prix is sure to be full of excitement and F1 enthusiasts will not want to miss a moment of the race.
