Ross Brawn Joins Up With Skidz Motor Projects

Ross BrawnRoss Brawn, principal of the Brawn GP Team said on Thursday that he will be a patron of the SKIDZ Motor Projects charity, an organization that gives opportunities to young people in the UK to get training in motor trades and be able to take courses in motor engineering. The charity's goal is to raise nearly a million pounds to purchase land for the Wycombe Motor Project. This would enable the charity to offer better services to the young people in the area and have better facilities to offer the disadvantaged youth.

Brawn said that he was happy to become a patrol of the charity, and to help out with their fundraising, as he started his F1 career in the 70's as a machinist and mechanic with Williams Grand Prix. He said that he is a passionate supporter of giving opportunities to young people, to learn skills related to the motor trade, and to create a passion for motor sports in general. He said that practical experience is the key to getting involved in the motor trade and that's exactly what SKIDZ does. The motor industry in general, and especially motorsport are difficult areas to access to, as there are costs involved that some kids just don't have the money to pay.

SKIDS – The Wycombe Motor Project was created in 1998 and started operating in October of 1999. It was originally envisioned as an diversionary project for young offenders but then they decided to create educational opportunities and prevention instead, and invited anyone in the community that wanted to learn about motor vehicles. They have courses throughout the day during term time, and also hold classes several evenings during the week. They are open during school holidays and their courses include such things as car, motorcycle, quad-bike and go-kart maintenance as well as some computer courses.
