Team Principal of Brawn, Ross Brawn has received the Most Outstanding Contribution to the Motorsport Industry from the Motorsport Industry Association. He was awarded the honor at the yearly summer reception on Monday in Britain's House of Lords. This is Brawn's second time in the news of late, as he just announced that he was to become a patron of the SKIDZ Motor Projects Charity. The charity gives young people that are disadvantaged in the UK a chance to learn about motor engineering and gain vocational motor trade skills, as well as having access to courses.
The award was presented by The Right Honourable Lord Drayson, who is the Minister of State for Innovation in Britain, and also a racer. The reception had over 300 guests attending including other Ministers of State, Ambassadors, MIA Members, leaders from the industry of Motorsport and other VIPs. MIA CEO Chris Aylett said that his contributions have benefitted several in the industry including employees, suppliers and drivers and that he is a great inspiration to up and coming engineers that will be required to improve the future of motorsport. He said that Ross Brawn was of a breed that would make sure motorsport's popularity extended well into the future.
The list of winners for this prestigious award include luminaries from F1 such as Sid Watkins, Frank Williams, Jackie Stewart, Bernie Ecclestone and Stirling Moss. Brawn has been in the motorsports industry for thirty three years, starting as a milling machine operator. He has eight championships with Benetton and Ferrari. Aylett said that Brawn is giving something back to the next generation of motorsport participants with his patronage of Formula Student and other projects, such as the SKIDZ charity.
