It's the seventeenth race of the 2009 season and the final one this year, ran at Abu Dhabi, at the Yas Marina Circuit. This circuit is 3.45 miles long and this is the first time that the Formula 1 Championship has been held in Abu Dhabi. The intention to do so was released back in 2007 and the date was set for this coming Sunday. This race is also special in the fact that there has never been a day-night Grand Prix before. The race starts at 5pm local time and continues far after the sun has gone done at 5:43.

The Abu Dhabi circuit is set up on a man-made island called Yes Island, and is 25 and a half square kilometers. The island sits on the eastern coast of Abu Dhabi and this is the first event that has ever been run on the Yas Marina Circuit. The Sponsor for the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is Ethihad Airways. In the first part of 2007 the intention to hold this year's final Formula One Grand Prix was announced at the Formula 1 Festival. The race had originally been scheduled for November 15th however. The FIA changed the date of the race in early November last year and it became scheduled for a final race two weeks earlier, based upon the removal of the French Grand Prix and the Canadian Grand Prix from the F1 Calender, where it was set to the current date of November 1st. The race will begin in the day and floodlights will be kept on throughout the entire race to ensure an interrupted transition.

Abu Dhabi was introduced to Formula 1 when the Formula 1 Festival was held in February 2007 and features F1 cars and drivers, in fact the largest gathering of such in a non Grand Prix event. It was announced during the festival that Abu Dhabi would host a Grand Prix from 2009 until the year 2016. The title sponsor for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Etihad Airways, came later, sealing a three year agreement for them to sponsor the race.

The Brazilian Grand Prix was held on Sunday, October 18th and was the race previous to this one. A lot happened in the race as far as points go, with some championship places being sealed and some still up for grabs. The official results of the race had Mark Webber as the big winner, who had started in the number two spot on the grid, with Robert Kubica coming from 8th to take runner up. Third place was Lewis Hamilton for McLaren Mercedes and fourth and fifth was Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button. Rubens Barichello was on pole and ended up in eighth place.

A lot happened at the race, with the World Championship Title for the 2009 Driver's Championship going to Jenson Button. Button started in fourteenth place on the grid and ended up in fifth, but with still enough points to secure the championship during the Brazilian Grand Prix. However there is still the second and third places to decide which are between Sebastian Vettel and Rubens Barichello, who are separated by just two points. We'll have to see how the driver's standings are after the Abu Dhabi race.

As for the constructor's championships, we already know who the winner is, based upon the points earned during the Brazilian Grand Prix. The 2009 Constructor's Champion is Brawn GP and second place has already been decided as well, being taken by Red Bull. Brawn only had one driver in the top five in the Brazilian but already had enough overall points to win, while Red Bull Racing had two drivers in the top five of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The Abu Dhabi race will determine who will take third in the constructor's championship, Ferrari or McLaren.

There will be some major changes coming to next year's Formula 1 roster as BMW Sauber decides to bow out altogether. They only have won one GP, the 2006 Canadian Grand Prix with Robert Kubica driving. Kubica will move to Renault, who Fernando Alonso moving to Ferrari and taking the place of Kimi Raikkonen, who will no longer be racing for Ferrari. It will be interesting to see how the changes affect next year's Grand Prix races.
