January 28th through the 29th will be the 50th anniversary of the Rolex 24 at Daytona held at the Daytona International Speedway. This historic endurance race has been going on since 1962 and this race is run on a 3.56 mile combined track, which uses parts of the tri-oval course used by NASCAR and an infield road course. The event is always held over the last weekend in January, or the first weekend in February and is notable for kicking off the new season of motorsport in the United States, as well as for being the first major motorsport event in the US.

Last year, the winners of the Daytona 24 sponsored by Rolex included Joey Hand and Graham Rahal with Telmex Chip Ganessi Racing. Before that, in 2010, it was Action Express Racing who took the event, with drivers Joao Barbosa, Terry Borcheller, Ryan Dalziel and Mike Rockenfeller. In 2009 Brumos Racing was the team out front with drivers including Antonio Garcia, Darren Law, Buddy Rice and David Donohue. The Rolex 24 at Daytona which is also called the 24 Hours of Daytona as it has for decades, is just what is sounds like. A 24 hour endurance race that is held every year in Daytona Beach Florida. The Daytona International Speedway is the venue and the track is a more than three and a half mile course that combines both the tri-oval that NASCAR races are run on and a road course. It will be held this year through January 31st and you can watch this race live by getting your membership at the links on this page and watching in live, streaming video.

The race started in 1962 and has gone through a bunch of name changes throughout the years. Rolex has been the title sponsor since 1991 and before that it was Suntrust bank, under its previous name – Sunbank. Pepsi was the original sponsor from 1984 back. Now, with Rolex as the name on the Marquis, winners of the Daytona 24 Hours get an additional prize added to the prestige and prize money, a Rolex Watch. The race had previously been ran in January but was moved into February in 2006 so that viewers could watch both this race and the Superbowl.

Porsche has won this race more than any other manufacturer and has a total of 21 victories with eleven of those consecutive. Ferrari is second with five wins. As far as driver's go Hurley Haywood won four times in a seventies and then once in 1991 to take the record with five wins, while Pedro Rodriguez, Bob Wollek, Peter Gregg and Rolf Stommelen all have four races each. Last year, David Donahue, Antonio Garcia, Darren Law and Buddy Rice were the big winners.
