BMW Sauber are one of the newer teams participating in the formula 1 circuit these days. They are a hybrid of Sauber Formula One and BMW. The team is based in both Switzerland and Germany. Despite not having much of a history in formula one they have shown remarkable adaptability by following a very respectable 6th place finish in their first season to finish in second place last season following the penalties that were sanctioned on the McLaren Mercedes team.

BMW Sauber F1 got their start 2 short years ago when they made their debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2006. Since that time they have participated in 35 races without yet being able to secure their first victory. For their initial campaign the team decided to sign on Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve as their two drivers. That season produced the teams first point by Jacques Villenueve at the Malaysian Grand Prix and then their first podium at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The 2007 campaign saw the departure of the veteran Jacques Villeneuve and BMW Sauber decided to go with Heidfeld and Robert Kubica as their top two strikers. While the new F1.07 car was fairly inconsistent, the team was able to produce a couple of important finishes such as a 4th place at the Malaysia Grand Prix and then a 6th in Bahrain which allowed them to earn some points. Their top performance of the year would come late during a Canadian Grand Prix that saw both a 2nd place finish for Heidfeld and a major crash involving Kubica. Luckily, the Polish striker escaped with only minor injuries. Overall, the team improved from week to week and goes into the 2008 season with a lot of signs pointing in the right direction for them.

No changes have been announced in terms of the drivers pair up for the 2008 season. Kubica and Heidfeld will once again be the first two while Christian Klein of Austria and Marko Asmer of Estonia will be the test drivers. The team principal remains Mario Theissen with Willy Rampf fulfilling the duties of technical director. The chassis is the F1.08 with BMW P86/8 serving as the engine. Bridgestone will once again be the tire supplier.

While the improvement from 2006 to 2007 may not be enough to suggest that BMW Sauber F1 are ready to make the jump to the level of Ferrari and McLaren, it does stand to reason that they have as good a chance as any squad to challenge for at least a 3rd place finish in the constructor's championship.
